Preparing the observation of the annular solar eclipse of 2005 October in Spain

On 2005 October the antumbra of an annular eclipse will pass over Spain leaving in the center of the path cities as Madrid and Valencia.

We are considering the observation at the edges to register the northern and southern limits of the central event. We will prepare the observation as it follows:

- Localizing on a map optimal regions considering their situation and accessibility.
- Studying the averaging meteorological conditions of different sites on each previously located regions. For that purpose we will collaborate with local meteorologists.
- Exploring the selected sites over the terrain.
- Looking for hosting facilities in the region.

After preliminary analyses we propose following regions:

For the northern limit:

1- The Alcarria region located in the province Guadalajara, 200 km from Madrid.
2- To the south of the city of Teruel, 1.000 m above the sea level.
3- The Mediterranean flat coast close to the city of Castelló
4- The isle of Eivissa

For the southern limit:

1- The very flat region of La Mancha, at 600 m above the sea level.
2- The mountains and highlands before the coast in the province Murcia,
3- The coast close to Cartagena.

The definitive observation sites will be not selected until a few days before the event. Therefore we will give a big significance to be near a main road.
